Circus of the Stars was a 1977-1994 American television special that typically aired once per year on the CBS network. It was a variety show in which television and movie stars would perform circus-type acts and stunts.

Circus of the Stars #13 (1988)[edit | edit source]

Emma Samms, a star of the ABC television series Dynasty, joined John Byron on stage for a levitation act. But Emma isn't quite sure how this trick will be performed, since she's certain that she can't be hypnotized.

Emma Samms is introduced wearing a lovely wedding gown.
They discuss what the performance is about and he explains that he will hypnotize her and make her float.
She explains that she can't be hypnotized and that its been tried before and doesn't work. She even apologizes that she can't help him with this trick.
Still, he requests her to go along and starts talking to her: "Close your eyes, relax.."
"Your getting sleepy, deep sleep..."
Unable to be hypnotized initially, she turns around and says "Is that it?.."
Perplexed, he wonders and says: "I don't understand this Emma, I've done this a hundred times, it usually works like this".
He snaps his fingers and suddenly Emma's eyes close as she falls into trance
Happy with the what has happened, he begins to speak: "Emma very good, now you will follow my every command.."
"Open your eyes..." Obediently, Emma slowly opens her eyelids. She stands upright and motionless, ready to obey his commands.
"Relax.." Emma's arms begin to drop slowly to her side as she obeys.
"Your body will do what I tell it to, it will get lighter than gravity.."
"Because I command you to do so..." Emma listens to his instructions and stares blankly ahead.
"Raise your arms..." And she complies
"You are perfectly safe, as long as you are in my control..."
She lays her down on a bench.
"Rise.." And her body starts to levitate.
He demonstrates with a large ring that she is indeed levitating.
He commands her body to descend and prepares the bench.
And her body obeys accordingly without question.
He moves and commands her to stand up.
She starts to get up as commanded
Tells her to open her eyes
She stands up, eyes wide open in trance. As the audience applauds the performance.
He snaps his finger to wake her up..
She snaps out from her trance, unaware of what has happened and continues to apologize for not being able to help in the performance.
He lets her talk for awhile and decides to snap his fingers again.
Emma's eyes open wide as she falls back into trance once again.
He holds her hands as she remains in trance. Eyes staring into the distance.
Both of them take a bow as the audience applauds.
Emma turns around and leaves the stage, walking away while still in a trance.
