Creepy (Japanese: クリーピー 偽りの隣人, Kurīpī: Itsuwari no Rinjin, "Creepy: The False Neighbor") is a 2016 Japanese thriller film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, starring Hidetoshi Nishijima, Yūko Takeuchi, Teruyuki Kagawa, Haruna Kawaguchi, and Masahiro Higashide. Based on the 2012 novel by Yutaka Maekawa, it is about a married couple uncovering the secrets of their new, mysterious neighbor. The film had its world premiere at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival on 13 February 2016. It was released in Japan on 18 June 2016.

Plot[edit | edit source]

Takakura is a former detective. He receives a request from his ex-colleague, Nogami, to examine a missing family case that occurred six years earlier. Takakura follows Saki's memory. She is the only surviving family member from the case. Meanwhile, Takakura and his wife Yasuko recently moved into a new home. Their neighbor, Nishino, has a sick wife and a young teen daughter. One day, the daughter, Mio, tells him that the man is not her father and she doesn't know him at all. The mystery leads Takakura to face a serial killer who brainwashes families into killing each other, and now the detective himself has become the target of the maniac.
