Dragonquest

From Mental Block

Dragonquest is a 2009 American sword-and-sorcery film produced by The Asylum and starring Daniel Bonjour, Mark Singer, Jennifer Dorogi, Brian Thompson, and Jason Connery. Although not a true "mockbuster" like other films produced by The Asylum, the film borrows heavily from The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The evil sorcerer Kirill (Thompson) raises a fire dragon and sets it upon the kingdom, effortlessly destroying the King and his army. To stop him, a "chosen one" named Arkadi (Bonjour) is tasked with collecting a number of magical stones. Arkadi is assisted on his quest by Katya (Dorogi), a no-nonsense warrior, and Maxim (Singer), a cynical old wizard.

Kirill has hypnotic powers, which he uses to enslave the men of Arkadi's village. Arkadi is lured away from Katya and Maxim and is hypnotized into giving away the amulet that holds the magic stones. Katya and Maxim raid the encampment and free Arkadi, who regains the stones, but Maxim is killed and Katya is hypnotized by the same magic mirror that ensnared Arkadi. Later, under Kirill's control, she steals the amulet from Arkadi and brings it to the evil wizard.

Kirill captures Arkadi and destroys the stones. Arkadi manages to break Kirill's hold on Katya and, recalling Maxim's words to him, realizes that the stones themselves hold no power; the act of collecting them has imbued him with their qualities, and he is able to conjure an ice dragon without the amulet. The ice dragon defeats Kirill's fire dragon in the skies while Arkadi defeats Kirill on the ground, saving the kingdom and the world.
