Ghostbusters (Animated Series)

From Mental Block

Ghostbusters (AKA Filmation's Ghostbusters) is a 1986 American animated television series created by Filmation and distributed by Tribune Entertainment in first-run syndication. It is an animated sequel to Filmation's 1975 live-action series of the same name, with main characters Jake Kong Jr. (voice of Pat Fraley) and Eddie Spencer Jr. (voice of Peter Cullen) described as the sons of the main characters of the live-action series.

The animated series follows the comedic adventures of two bumbling ghost-hunters based in New York City; together with their gorilla assistant Tracy, they battle ghosts led by Prime Evil, a powerful figure who resides in the Fifth Dimension.

Although Filmation's Ghostbusters aired aired at the same time as a second supernatural-themed animated series, DIC Entertainment's The Real Ghostbusters, the two shows shared nothing in common other than the theme and name, the latter being based on characters from the 1984 comedy blockbuster Ghostbusters. Filmation's decision to revive its 1975 series as a weekly animated show came as the direct result of a decision by Columbia Pictures, producers of the 1984 movie, to hire DIC and not Filmation to produce a follow-up animated series. However, the series was poorly received and, like its live-action predecessor, was cancelled after three months on the air.

Shades Of Dracula (Season 1, Episode 36)[edit | edit source]

Count Dracula returns to Transylvania to take back his castle from the current occupant, the Countess of Transylvania. He hypnotizes the Countess and her servant into becoming his devoted thralls. His arrival in Transylvania does not go unnoticed, and the Lord Mayor of Transylvania (?) calls the Ghostbusters for help. Jake, Eddie, and Tracy arrive along with their friend Jessica, but Dracula manages to get Jessica alone and hypnotized her as well. Under his spell, she tries to lure her friends into a trap, but they escape.

The three hunters set up a trap for Dracula, and Jessica manages to overcome the vampire's mind control. Although Dracula manages to break free from the trap, a quick-thinking Jessica ties a piece of the trap (a balloon) to Dracula's cape, causing him to be listed into the sunlight and destroyed.
