M.A.N.T.I.S.
M.A.N.T.I.S. was a 1994 American made-for-television movie that aired on the Fox television network. It starred Carl Lumbly as Dr. Miles Hawkins, a brilliant scientist who builds a powered exoskeleton and fights crime after he is shot and paralyzed. The movie served as a two-hour pilot for the television series of the same name, which aired for one season in 1994-1995.

Television news bigwig Lila McEwan (Marcia Cross) encounters the M.A.N.T.I.S. (Lumbly) in the TV station's parking garage. He uses a paralyzing gas to freeze her in place, then hypnotizes her with his mask. He programs her with a message to deliver to reporter Yuri Barnes (Bobby Hosea), who is working to uncover corruption in the city.
The next day, Yuri delivers a report to Lila, who goes into a trance and mindlessly repeats the message to him before awakening with no memory of what happened.
