Space: 1999

Space: 1999 is a 1975-1977 British science fiction adventure series that aired on the ITV television network. The series centers on the inhabitants of a lunar base who are unexpectedly marooned in deep space when an explosion causes the Moon to leave Earth's orbit. Created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (of 'Supermarionation' fame), it was at the time the most expensive television series ever produced in the UK. The series starred Martin Landau as John Koenig, the commander of Moonbase Alpha. The large supporting cast included Barbara Bain, Nick Tate, Barry Morse, and Catherine Schell.

Force of Life (Season 1, Episode 2)

A wandering energy force inhabits the body of Alpha technician Anton Zoref (Ian McShane), turning him into an energy absorbing being.

Dragon's Domain (Season 1, Episode 8)

Captain Tony Cellini (Gianni Garko) is the sole survivor of a disastrous 1996 encounter with an alien, which hypnotized and devoured the rest of Cellini's crew. Although disbelieved and discredited when he returned to Earth, he is vindicated when Moonbase Alpha encounters the same alien, and he soon sets out to stop the monster before it can kill again.

Ring Around the Moon (Season 1, Episode 19)

Maintenance technician Ted Clifford (Max Faulkner) is possessed by an eerie yellow glow, which ultimately kills him. It transpires that it is coming from a planet called Triton, which captures the Alphans and insists that Helena (Barbara Bain) should become the Eyes of Triton. Before long she is acting just as Clifford did before his death.

Space Brain (Season 1, Episode 21)

Alien gyphs appear on all of Alpha's screens. Koenig sends an Eagle to investigate. The Eagle is lost and the pilot is taken over by a huge, alien 'Space Brain', using him as a channel to make the Alphans do its bidding. Koenig has to destroy it.

The Troubled Spirit (Season 1, Episode 22)

Dr. Dan Mateo (Giancarlo Prete), one of Alpha's botanists, believes that he can increase their food supply by communicating telepathically with his plants. After passing out during one of his electronic experiments, Alpha seems to become haunted by a murderous and disfigured spirit.

The Taybor (Season 2, Episode 10)

The expansive Taybor, an inter-galactic merchant arrives from hyper-space on his ship the 'Emporium'. He is offering to sell things to the Alphans. Koenig realizes that if the Taybor sold them his space-ship, it would enable the Alphans to fly back to Earth, but the price the Taybor is asking for this transaction is Maya. Helena builds a robot version of Maya as a substitute, which Taybor seems to enthusiastically accept; however, he gives Maya a necklace that erases her memories and spirits her away to his ship, planning to leave the robot version behind as a timebomb.

Seed of Destruction (Season 2, Episode 11)

Whilst he is exploring an asteroid Koenig is taken over by an alien race known as the Kalthon, who replace him with an exact double. In consequence every action ordered by the fake Koenig is solely for the benefit of the Kalthon and to the detriment of the welfare of the Alphans. Helena realizes that something is wrong when 'Koenig' is cold to the touch and needs to convince the other crew members.

Space Warp (Season 2, Episode 14)

Koenig and Verdeschi are sucked into a space warp. A feverish Maya is stricken with a fever that causes her to transform into a repulsive space monster.

The Lambda Factor (Season 2, Episode 17)

Lambda waves permeate Moonbase Alpha, causing instruments to malfunction and people to behave out of character. Crew member Sally dies in mysterious circumstances. Koenig is assailed by guilt-driven visions from his own past. It eventually becomes clear that the Lambda Variant has amplified psychic abilities on the base, in particular for Carolyn Powell, whose lover was previously Sally's boyfriend, and who is beset by jealous rage. Dr. Russell aids Koenig to overcome his own "ghosts", and prevent Carolyn from taking over the Moonbase.

Dorzak(Season 2, Episode 21)

When a ship carrying a prisoner lands at Moonbase Alpha after asking for assistance, Maya insists that the prisoner is a poet and not a murderer and releases him. Unfortunately, the prisoner turns out to be a powerful psychic with the power to control minds.
