Super Smash Bros (Series)

Super Smash Bros. is a series of crossover fighting video games published by Nintendo. It primarily features characters from their own franchises with the addition of characters from other companies such as Sega, Capcom, and Square Enix. The series was created by Masahiro Sakurai, who has directed every game in the series.

The series introduced the sub-genre of platform fighters. The game still has fighting games staples such as combos and special moves, but there is the added element of platforming that can either hinder or help players. The added platforms also increase the player count up to four, or eight for later entries of this franchise.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit | edit source]

Event Match[edit | edit source]

The game introduces a mode where the player can select a match that must be completed under certain conditions. These conditions include a time limit, preventing a character from getting knocked out, or completing a match with a specific character. The player is limited in event choice, but they can unlock more matches as they complete existing omes.

Event 44: Mewtwo Strikes![edit | edit source]

The player, with their choice of character, must defeat Mewtwo without defeating Zelda (Zelda will still attack the player).

The name and scenario of the event is a reference to Pokémon: The First Movie. Zelda fills in the role of Nurse Joy from the movie.

Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary[edit | edit source]

The Adventure Mode from the last game is succeeded by The Subspace Emissary. Rather than a string of loosely connected levels, this new mode has a fully-fledged story about a deity pulling parts of the world into his realm: the Subspace. The story is told through multiple plot threads following groups of at least 2 characters around the world (the game mode supports cooperative play).

The Lake Shore[edit | edit source]

To help take over the world, the deity Tabuu enlists the help of various villains. One of these villains, Wario, kidnaps either Princess Peach or Princess Zelda and turns her into a trophy. Later on in the story, a dark clone of Bowser takes the form of the kidnapped princess and fights our heroes.

The Swamp[edit | edit source]

In another location Falco and Fox confront a giant clone of Diddy Kong. The real Diddy Kong is revived to help them.

Battleship Halberd Interior[edit | edit source]

Eventually, both princesses are kidnapped and sent to Meta Knight's ship the Halberd. On their way to stop the ship, Lucario, Meta Knight, and Snake come across trophies of both princesses. Before they move any further, the trophies are cloned and fight. After being defeated, the real princesses are freed.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit | edit source]

World of Light[edit | edit source]

While the last entries omit an Adventure Mode of their own, this entry brings it back in the form of World of Light, another fully-fledged story for the game. Similar to the last story, this mode has the player traverse the world to stop the antagonist from taking over the world. However, instead of fighting an original entity, this mode most utilizes the games characters as enemies. Our antagonist Galeem turns most of the fighters into trophies, clones them, and uses the spirits of other non-playable characters to possess the clones. The clones are then scattered across the reshaped world. Kirby, the last remaining playable character, must free the rest of the characters and stop Galeem.
